Customer Profile
Mercy Hospital of Buffalo has been providing compassionate, high-quality care to central Buffalo and Western New York for more than 118 years, featuring a world-class stroke center, the Catholic Health Heart Center, and comprehensive maternity care.
Customer Challenge
Mercy Hospital required a complete replacement of three Direct Expansion (DX) Air Enterprises Air Handling Units (AHUs) to enhance air quality and maintain optimal conditions in its critical care areas. Furthermore, the hospital needed a solution that would allow these essential spaces to remain fully operational throughout the upgrade.
Stark Tech Solution
To meet these challenges, Mercy Hospital turned to Stark Tech as a trusted advisor. After evaluating multiple options, Stark Tech recommended a full replacement of the three DX AHUs. A prepurchase of equipment was advised to streamline the project timeline and ensure availability. The new system required low-temperature chilled water, which the hospital did not previously have, ruling out refurbishment as an option due to the need for deeper cooling coils.
Stark Tech’s Equipment and Integration teams worked closely throughout the project, attending design meetings, coordinating bid packages, and hosting the Catholic Health team to demonstrate the benefits of an integrated Stark equipment and controls package. To ensure uninterrupted operations during the replacement, a temporary air handling solution was implemented.
Project Results
By leveraging Stark Tech’s expertise in equipment, controls, and system integration, Mercy Hospital successfully modernized its air handling system while maintaining continuous operations in its critical care areas. The successful implementation of our solutions led to significant improvements in the hospital’s environmental conditions:
- Seamless transition: The use of a temporary air handling solution ensured no disruptions to patient care.
- Improved air quality: The new system enhanced filtration and humidity control, contributing to a healthier environment for patients and staff.
