Griffiss Utility Service Corporation Transforms Business Park with Solar PV Carport

Customer Profile: Established in 2000, Griffiss Utility Service Corporation (GUSC) operates as a not-for-profit utility company. Its primary mission is to bolster economic growth at Griffiss Business and Technology Park (GBTP) in Rome, New York, serving 68 businesses within the park.

Customer Challenge: GUSC sought to optimize cost-efficiency while introducing a sustainable energy source to the business park. With a focus on renewable energy, GUSC engaged Stark Tech in 2014 to conduct feasibility studies for Solar PV projects at GBTP, leveraging property owned by the Air Force Research Lab. In 2018, GUSC further tasked Stark Tech with exploring the viability of a PV carport project for the park’s parking facilities.

Stark Tech Solution: Stark Tech spearheaded the initiative by crafting preliminary layouts, specifications, and energy generation estimates. Additionally, our team conducted a thorough economic analysis tailored to GUSC’s unique position in the electricity market.

Project Result: Satisfied with the results of the analysis, GUSC decided to proceed with development and retained Stark Tech to oversee project design, draft procurement specifications, formulate construction contracts (including operation and maintenance terms), solicit bids, navigate permitting processes, and manage contractors throughout construction and commissioning.
